Current Information:Age-33 Bethune Town Cemetery, France On 18th August, 1915, 19th London, 141 Brigade, 47th Division moved to Houchin, near Nouex-les-Mines in France to work on the 3rd line trenches, east of Nouex-les-Mines and 10 days later went by bus to Les Brebis to work on a new front line trench. This was dangerous work, joining up saps to create a new fire trench, close to the German line and on 30th August, 1915, Captain Hanewinkel was killed. The battalion diary gives no further detail about his death but it was likely to have been as a result of enemy shell fire. |
